DMD undertook on-site and off site light level measurements at the Carmel Highschool football field in California (on behalf of the DarkSky International) in order to validate DarkSky requirements were met. Based on the assessment report provided by DMD the DarkSky International issued certification that requirements were met.
DarkSky International (https://darksky.org/) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to protect communities from the harmful effects of light pollution through outreach, advocacy, and conservation. As part of their work the DarkSky International has developed an outdoor sports lighting review and certification program (https://darksky.org/what-we-do/darksky-approved/outdoor-sports-lighting/). The cost is typically built into the supplier’s cost. The end result is a certificate certifying the lighting meets stringent requirements which is of value to many communities.
