In February 2022, the IES has issued an updated version of RP-8 Lighting Roadway and Parking Facilities and can be purchased on the IES web site at www.ies.org. It replaced the previous 2018 version. There are many changes throughout with the most significant updates being related to the addition of surround ratio (Chapters 3, 10 and 11) along with a new method of defining lighting levels located in Annex K. Recent research has shown surround ratio has significant object detection benefits as defined in NCHRP Report 940.
