North East False Creek Project

We are excited to announce that we have started work on the new North East False Creek Project! This project involves the removal of the Georgia Street Viaducts and the major works surrounding the site. Within the project limits, 5% of the City of Vancouver traffic signals will be impacted (42 plus or minus) and about 6 km of street lighting. The project also involves dynamic message signs, traffic management systems and communication duct design. We are looking forward to working with the City of Vancouver to help create a new and improved viaduct area. Stay tuned for updates on the progress of this...

City of Vancouver Standards

DMD have completed and issued the City of Vancouver street lighting and traffic signal design and construction standards which will be published by the City in early 2017. The standards define specific design and construction requirements for street lighting and traffic signals in the City of Vancouver. DMD and City staff worked in collaboration to develop these very detailed...

Award Winning Design Build Project

DMD, as part of the BA Blacktop design-build team, were awarded a 2015 Canadian Design-Build Institute (CDBI) Award of Excellence for the Roberts Bank Rail Corridor (RBRC) Combo Project. The RBRC Combo Project was an $88 million dollar design-build project delivered by the City of Surrey which included three new grade separated overpass structures spanning an active rail line and the high traffic volume Highway 10 corridor. The main goals of this project was to improve traffic safety, traffic flows and emergency vehicle access while reducing traffic delays and train whistles due to the at grade train crossings. DMD provided the Electrical Engineering for the project, which included 8 traffic signals, ITS ducting across all bridges, approximately 6km of roadway lighting along with some pathway lighting, all to meet the required Ministry of Transportation, City of Langley, Township of Langley and City of Surrey...

DMD Commission 75th Traffic Controller

The basis of a good functioning signalized intersection is a deep understanding of how the traffic controller equipment works from the ground up. Understanding all the available functions this equipment offers to better service the pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles is what DMD does best. DMD have tested, set-up, and commissioned over 75 traffic signal controllers over the last 7 years and as such have gained extensive knowledge and understanding of controllers and their operation. Our services include shop testing and programming along with testing, set-up and commissioning in the field. This process has improved implementation and reduced delays. In addition documentation provided such as “as built” controller wiring diagrams and hook-up instructions has aided maintenance and field troubleshooting. We prepare signed and sealed clearance calculations to ITE and municipal standards for every intersection commissioned for safe operation. Our expertise also includes the commission/testing of vehicle detection systems, which include inductive loop, video and radar detection, accessible pedestrian systems (APS), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), pre-emption systems, radios, IP camera’s and switch configurations for traffic communication...
