DMD have an adaptive street lighting control system on a number of luminaires on the street in front of our office and are undertaking ongoing assessments of the effects of dimming street lighting. A previous analysis undertaken by DMD showed minimal visibility impacts when dimming the street lights to 20% of their full output as observed by a group of 15 staff at night. Recent testing and evaluation included a system which dimmed the lights and then via a radar based technology built into the node brings the lights up to full brightness to accommodate an approaching vehicle. DMD tested and evaluated the system at various speeds and at randomized dimming settings. DMD will be issuing a White Paper with the findings. In addition, DMD will be reviewing and assessing dimming of street lights and sharing findings with the International Dark Sky Association and the Illuminating Engineering...
