DMD have a luminous intensity meter to better assess and measure the offsite impacts of roadway, high mast, and sports lighting installations. This meter measures luminous intensity in candlepower which is defined in CIE Guide on the Limitation of the Effects of Obtrusive Light and the International Dark-Sky Association Criteria for Community Friendly Outdoor Sports Lighting v1.0. As per the Kirkland Reporter article below, construction on Totem Lake Connector Bridge is set to begin this year. “It’s about to get real, which will have some impacts on the Totem Lake area,” city manager Kurt Triplett said, adding, “This is a huge investment for us, and we’re really excited about it…but with the excitement comes a little bit of challenge as we put it into place.” The bridge, which runs about 1,400 feet, will serve bicyclists and pedestrians specifically, and is being built in part to improve non-motorized transportation at the intersection of Totem Lake Boulevard and Northeast 124th Street. Currently, this intersection is the busiest in the Kirkland area. DMD have completed the electrical and lighting design for the Totem Lake Bridge Connector. The design featured an LED RGB light system, which will illuminate the entire bridge at night and create lighting effects to highlight the structure. The lights will be able to display different patterns that can be programmed to display various colours including the Seahawks’ blue, green and grey. Other elements included sidewalk lighting integrated into the foot-rails, innovative lighting control system connected to the City local area network, lighting for a cantilevered look-out platform and internal illumination in seating area. DMD undertook the lighting layout using rendering software which involved numerous design iterations. DMD delivered plans, specification and cost estimates.
